Today's Focus: Got GRIT?
Angela Duckworth, a teacher turned psychologist, has found that one particular characteristic may be the most important factor in determining your success both in school and in life. Check out her findings below:
Got GRIT? (6 minutes)

Video Discussion (<7 minutes)
1. So what is grit?
2. Can a person have grit without having a long term goal? Explain.
3. Duckworth stated that students with true grit believe that their failures are temporary.
  • Is this a growth mindset or a fixed mindset statement?
  • How do you think this belief influences someone's ability to achieve success?
  • What other beliefs might help people become more successful?
4. Duckworth believed that every student could pass her math class, regardless of how smart they were (or what there IQ score was) if they worked hard.
  • How can we show true grit in the classroom?

Independent Activity (3-4 minutes)
Do you think you are a gritty person? Find out by taking the survey below:

Class Share (3 minutes)

EXIT SLIP (2 minutes)
